Isola di spezie (The island of perfumes)

Spetses, sitting in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, is the island of sea captains and Venetian mansions which emit a vintage aura.

The houses of sea captains, the ancient anchors and the cannons dated back to the Greek Revolution, will tell you in a unique way about the great naval history of the island.
Spetses island is an area of 27 sq km, located at a distance of 54 nautical miles away from Piraeus port and 2,5 nautical miles away from the eastern coast of Peloponnese with Ferry connections to and from Spetses.
Spetses is an ideal destination for short getaways all year round for those who want to unwind, relax and wander undisturbed on a car-free island.

The town

Dapia, the main port of Spetses, is the heart of the island due to the emplacement and cannons of the Greek revolution in 1821, that lie there on a cobbled pavement with elaborate designs.

Strolling around

Explore some of the main sightseeing:
The Venetian mansions along the seaside to the Old Harbour, the Metropolitan Church of Agios Nikolaos and the picturesque shipyards.

Visit also the historical monuments:
– The House of Laskarina Bouboulina where a sense of history envelopes you and you are transported back in time to the Greek Revolution of 1821. Walk through all the places where the heroine of the Greek War of lndependence lived and discover unique works of art dated back to the 18th and 19th century like handmade furniture and some of her personal belongings.
– The Hatzigiannis Mexis mansion which houses Spetses Museum. On display inside the building are historic relics (the ossicles of Bouboulina, traditional costumes, weaponry, rare books and household artifacts of the Ancient Greek times).
– The historical Poseidonion Grand Hotel, built in the beginning of the previous century, one of the island’s famous landmarks. Admire its fine architecture, the spectacular views and its elegant and wonderfully decorated spaces. ln front of the Hotel in the center of the square, the Statue of Bouboulina looms.
– The Anargyrios and Korgialenios School of Spetses, a historical and cultural heritage site of the island, was donated by the benefactor of Spetses Sotirios Anargyros. At the back of Dapia port you will see his house which is one of the most beautiful neoclassical buildings in Greece.

  • Don’t miss the spectacular Armata festival on Spetses. Various celebrations take place every September and the festival reaches its highest with the representation of the historic Spetses naval battle, occurred on September 8th, 1822.
  • Ιf you are keen on running, cycling or swimming and you love Athletic Events, you could take part in Spetses Μίnί Marathon, organized in October or Spetsathlon, organized in May.
  • Beaches
  • Don’t think that Spetses have no beaches. Agia Marina, Xylokeriza, Agia Paraskevi, Vrellos and Zogeria are some of the best beaches in Spetses with crystal clear water, pine trees, pebbles or sand.
  • Also, located near Αgii Anargyri beach, Bekiris Cave is a unique spot of natural beauty which will definitely fascinate you.

  • The island is famous for its lively nightlife. Partying every night at the cosmic area of the Old Harbour of Spetses, while gazing at the view across.
